Trane VAL05930 Slide Valve Load/Unload Solenoid Valve – Compressor Refrigeration Equipment Valve (Maintenance/Replacement Part)

Trane VAL05930 Slide Valve Load/Unload Solenoid Valve – Compressor Refrigeration Equipment Valve (Maintenance/Replacement Part)

VAL05930 is an OEM capacity control solenoid valve body designed for Trane RTHB and RTHD water-cooled semi-hermetic screw chiller/heat pump units. It is a two-way pilot-operated solenoid valve with a flange-mount design, installed on the hydraulic control manifold of the screw compressor's slide valve. Driven by a 24V AC solenoid coil, the valve controls the flow and pressure relief of high-pressure POE refrigeration oil to the slide valve cylinder, enabling stepless capacity control (loading and unloading) of the screw compressor from 0% to 100%.
Issues such as valve spool sticking, seal degradation, or internal blockages can lead to sluggish loading, the unit being restricted to low-load operation, an inability to lower supply/return water temperatures, condensing pressure fluctuations, and random surging. This valve is an essential hydraulic spare part for the routine major overhaul of water-cooled screw chiller units.

Typical product failure symptoms:
1. The unit fails to load to full capacity; return water temperature remains consistently high, and cooling output is insufficient.
2. The valve spool sticks in the normally open or normally closed position; the slide valve fails to respond to commands, limiting the unit to minimum load operation.
3. Internal seal wear causes leakage; the oil cylinder suffers continuous pressure loss, causing the slide valve to oscillate and resulting in severe fluctuations in high and low pressures.
4. Flange gasket aging leads to leakage; refrigeration oil slowly seeps from the valve body flange, causing a continuous drop in the oil reservoir level.
5. Spring fatigue failure prevents the valve spool from resetting upon power-off; the slide valve remains stuck at full load, causing the unit’s high-side pressure to consistently exceed limits.
6. Sludge and impurities clog valve ports, preventing oil pressure from reaching the cylinder; the slide valve becomes permanently jammed at the minimum opening position.

Product Installation and Precautions:
1. Before disassembling the valve body, shut down the unit, stop the oil pump, and ensure the oil circuit is fully depressurized and cooled to prevent burns from high-temperature oil or gas spray.
2. Simultaneously clean sludge and metal debris from the oil circuit manifold; if debris enters the valve body, it can cause the valve spool to jam or fail shortly after operation.
3. Replace flange gaskets with new ones; reusing old or worn gaskets is prohibited to prevent oil leakage.
4. Align the valve body’s flow direction indicator with the oil pressure flow; incorrect installation results in no oil pressure generation, preventing the spool valve from loading.
5. Fully tighten the coil clamp around the valve body sleeve to prevent coil displacement or plug disconnection caused by unit vibration.
6. Manually control the solenoid valve to start and stop, ensuring the spool valve moves smoothly between 0% and 100% opening without sticking.
7. Operate at full load for 30 minutes to ensure stable condensing pressure and oil temperature, with no high-pressure load-limiting fault alarms.
