Trane SEN00306 Water Inlet/Outlet Temperature Sensor – NTC Thermistor Water Temperature Probe – Air Compressor Accessory

Trane SEN00306 Water Inlet/Outlet Temperature Sensor – NTC Thermistor Water Temperature Probe – Air Compressor Accessory

The SEN00306 is a dedicated immersion NTC thermistor temperature sensor designed for the chilled water inlet and outlet of Trane RT series water-cooled screw chillers. It features an extended 5-inch stainless steel probe, an integrated 32-foot gray shielded cable, and a standard brass threaded mounting fitting.
The probe is inserted into the water piping to monitor supply and return water temperatures, converting temperature readings into resistance signals transmitted to the unit's main controller. This enables functions such as cooling capacity regulation, freeze protection, water flow interlocking, and constant outlet temperature control. With standardized OEM resistance curves, cable lengths, and connector specifications, the sensor allows for direct replacement without the need for software recalibration, making it a critical electronic maintenance component for the chiller's water system.

Key Points for Product Installation and Maintenance
1. Shut down the unit, drain accumulated water from the temperature sensing well, and release pressure before removing the old probe.
2. Clean scale and sludge from inside the well to ensure the stainless steel probe rod is fully immersed in the water flow.
3. Apply a small amount of waterproof grease to the threaded connection and wrap a thin layer of PTFE tape around the exterior, taking care not to obstruct the probe rod.
4. Route shielded cables separately from high-voltage or heat-generating components—such as compressors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and high-voltage contactors—and bundle them independently.
5. Tighten the blue nut to secure the probe rod and prevent displacement caused by unit vibration.
6. Observe correct polarity for the three-core signal cable; after installation, power on the unit (without load) while water is flowing to verify normal inlet/outlet temperature readings on the mainboard before full operation.
7. The service life is 5–8 years under standard 24-hour continuous operation; however, inspection and replacement after 5 years are recommended for units operating in environments with high scaling potential or low-temperature freeze-protection requirements.
8. When replacing the probe, simultaneously inspect and service the associated water circuit components, including the flow switch, water strainer, and KIT07614 filter drier.

Scenarios Requiring Sensor Replacement
1. Mainboard water temperature reading remains static or fluctuates erratically; significant discrepancy between actual water circuit temperature and the displayed value;
2. Unit frequently reports water temperature sensor faults; compressor load is limited, preventing full-capacity cooling;
3. Winter freeze-protection logic fails; water pump fails to activate for heating despite low return water temperature;
4. Stainless steel probe rod suffers from scaling or corrosion-induced perforation; temperature sensing sensitivity is severely compromised;
5. Cable insulation is damaged, shielding is broken, or connectors leak water, causing signal interference and instability;
6. Thermistor is burnt out (infinite resistance or short circuit), resulting in a complete loss of temperature feedback.
