Trane VAL09074 Oil Return Solenoid Valve: Core Functions (Oil Return Control + High-Pressure Isolation — Dual Functionality in One Unit)
1. Compressor Oil Return Control (Primary Function)
Energizes and opens during unit operation to establish a clear flow path from the oil separator to the compressor oil return line, thereby ensuring adequate compressor lubrication and preventing burnout caused by oil starvation.
De-energizes and closes upon shutdown to cut off the oil return flow, preventing oil backflow and protecting the compressor against liquid slugging.

2. High-Pressure Discharge / Oil Circuit Control (Auxiliary Function)
In select models, this valve is utilized for high-pressure discharge bypass and oil circuit loading/unloading control, enabling precise regulation of system pressure and oil volume.

3. Safety Protection (High-Pressure Isolation)
Rated for a pressure resistance of 35 bar, it provides reliable isolation on the high-pressure side, preventing refrigerant or oil leakage and ensuring safety during maintenance operations.

Product Installation and Maintenance Guidelines
Installation (Brazed Connection, Leak Prevention)

Cleaning: Ensure interfaces are free of burrs and impurities, and that the copper tubing is fully seated.

Brazing: Use low-temperature brazing (silver brazing) to prevent heat damage to the coil and seals; remove the coil prior to brazing.

Orientation: Mount the valve body horizontally with the coil facing upward; avoid inverted installation. Ensure the flow direction aligns with the arrow marked on the valve body.
Pressure Testing: After installation, maintain a pressure of 25 bar for 24 hours; the unit passes if no leaks are detected.

Maintenance (Perform every 2 years / 10,000 hours, or in the event of a malfunction)

Inspection: Check for external cracks, burn marks on the coil, and leaks at the connections.

Cleaning: Flush the valve core and associated piping with refrigerant to remove oil sludge and impurities.

Component Replacement: Replace the original O-rings if leaks are detected. If the coil is burnt out or the valve core is worn, replace the entire valve assembly.

Testing: Upon energizing the valve, listen for an audible actuation sound (a crisp “click”). Measure the coil resistance (typically around 1 kΩ).
